Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board is a public sector autonomous organization established under an Act of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly in May 2011 for the promotion of Information Technology, Information Technology enabled services and Information Technology enabled education for public and private sector of the Province of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Towards a Digital Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is undergoing a digital transformation, with rapidly expanding mobile and internet connections. This has the potential to significantly drive growth, expand job opportunities, and improve service delivery. Supporting this digital transformation is Digital KP, a provincial strategy focused on supporting regulations, institutions and capabilities. The strategy is organized around four pillars: Digital Access, Digital Governance, Digital Economy and Digital Skills.

Dr. Shahbaz Khan

Managing Director - Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB)

Dr Shahbaz Khan has been Managing Director of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Information Technology Board (KPITB) since mid-2016. He is an internationally recognized network engineer, having worked on several R&D projects. Since joining KPITB, Dr Shahbaz has been driving the province's digital transformation and has initiated innovative projects related to improving public health and education, creating employment opportunities, increasing financial inclusion through digital payments, stimulating tech entrepreneurship and digital skills, building infrastructure; while developing institutional capacity in the public sector. The projects are underpinned by a provincial digital policy and strategy: "Digital KP" that outlines a vision for expanding internet access, developing digital skills, improving digital governance and strengthening the digital economy in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Digital Policy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa led by Dr. Shahbaz Khan for implementation, takes a deep dive into the regulatory, operational and financial challenges to the growth of IT Sector in the province and defines a set of comprehensive strategies from a provincial perspective to uplift this Sector.

A native of Malakand division, Dr Shahbaz holds a PhD in Computer Networks from Brunel University, UK and a B.E in Computer Engineering from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST). Dr Shahbaz is passionate about mentoring young people, researching the future of wireless connectivity, and bringing the benefits of the internet to citizens of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
